Learning through doing
The learning hubs reflect DeGroote’s shift in business education: where learning is active, collaborative and connected to the realities of how work actually happens today.
DeGroote students, working with peers in other faculties, alumni, faculty and community partners, have the opportunity to practise the skills demanded of the modern workplace. Our students will develop communication skills, curiosity and negotiation skills and the ability to incorporate feedback from a range of perspectives.
Hubs and labs
Purpose-built around the concept of discovery, these learning spaces give DeGroote students a space where they can apply what is learned in the classroom to real problems, new ideas and difficult questions that are facing both business and society.
The hubs and labs within the McLean Centre will allow students to test their ideas, use cutting-edge tools, collaborate with partners and explore new business opportunities that are shaping the future of work.
Allen H. Gould Trading Floor
The Allen H. Gould Trading Floor gives students access to a simulated trading environment and resources to build a strong understanding of financial markets. It serves as a central hub for students interested in finance to develop practical skills and market insight.
Data Analytics and AI Hub
The Data Analytics and AI Hub gives students hands-on experience with real data, real tools, and real-world challenges. Through applied learning and industry collaboration, students build the skills to make ethical, AI‑informed decisions and turn complex data into meaningful insight.
Design and Innovation Hub
The Design and Innovation Hub gives students opportunities to co-create solutions with equity-deserving communities. Through this hands-on work, they learn inclusive, user-focused design approaches and how to identify and address structural barriers that exclude marginalized voices.
KPMG Ignition Lab
The KPMG Ignition Lab helps students accelerate business innovation by building skills in emerging technologies, design thinking, and strategic foresight. Through applied learning, students learn to tackle complex industry challenges and develop forward-looking solutions.
Marinucci Entrepreneurial Bridge
The Marinucci Entrepreneurial Bridge helps students build an entrepreneurial mindset through access to mentorship, resources, and hands-on learning opportunities. It connects entrepreneurship across McMaster’s faculties in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
